ER32 Collet Set 25 Pieces

"OrangeA 25 Pcs Collet Set ER32 Collet Chuck 1/16 inch-3/4 inch Holder Spring Collet Set for CNC Engraving Machine & Milling Lathe Tool (ER32)"

Collets look to be reasonably clean from the factory.  A bath in the ultrasonic did not leave much anything behind.  Did not see swarf in slots.  Figuring out how I want to store them.  Too cold to use the lathe.  Paid an extra 10 to get them on amazon but then I wanted the no fuss return on amazon orders.

Interesting to note the title says 1/16 to 3/4 when the set has 25/32 and 13/16 sizes.

  • 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32
  • 3/16. 7/32, 1/4, 9/32
  • 5/16, 11/32, 3/8, 13/32
  • 7/16, 15/32, 1/2, 17/32
  • 9/16, 19/32, 5/8, 21/32
  • 11/16, 23/32, 3/4, 25/32
  • 13/16
Or maybe organize them so the common, simpler, fractions are on the left.
  • MT, MT, 1/16, 3/32
  • 1/8, 5/32, 3/16. 7/32
  • 1/4, 9/32, 5/16, 11/32
  • 3/8, 13/32, 7/16, 15/32
  • 1/2, 17/32, 9/16, 19/32
  • 5/8, 21/32, 11/16, 23/32
  • 3/4, 25/32, 13/16, MT
Thinking about a tray format so I can easily move the collets between machines.  Currently only have the collet holder for the Atlas 10 but that could change.

So far have a sheet of plywood with 2 outside rails wide enough for 4 collets across. Plan to add strips between rows to allow room for my fat fingers to grab them. Not sure if this will fit in the drawer under the lathe. Don't matter it's how I want them organized. And yes I am going to leave them in the cheap plastic boxes while they last. If they die I will print new ones. Maybe 1 box per row.

It's done.  Mostly anyway.  Still need to make spacers for the 3 empty positions.  Base is scrap plywood, sides and spacers are from pallet stickers.  Beeswax & turpentine finish.

The dividers are loose.  Spacers where there are not boxes will straighten them out.  No need to fasten them down so long as one only removes a few collets at one time.  This also give me more elbow room should I choose to 3D print something to replace the boxes. For now better labels on the box would be nice.

That was a nice quick project on a couple of cold days.  Did the glueup and finishing in my office.  The finish stinks a bit but I have not heard any complaints yet.  Its nice to see it finished.
